In 1976 Comharchumann Bearna Teo was formed after five local men put up the purchase money for two acres at Troscai Thiar to be used for community purposes. Those men were
  1. Jimmy Cunningham
  2. Liam Geraghty
  3. Tommy Kavanagh
  4. Bosco McDermott
  5. Gearoid Mac Eoin
The Comharchumann was registered as a friendly society with the intention that its mission would be to develop local amenities. Membership was open to anyone wishing to purchase share in the co-op and over a 150 shares were bought initially. Once the land had being purchased, raising money to develop the Troscai Thiar land was the next objective. This was done by having Mayoral Elections over the next ten years. The junior football pitch was developed in 1977/78 and the two tennis courts were opened in 1979 at the cost of over 7,000 punts. Subsequently the junior football field was converted into two tennis courts.
